In Class: We finished our discussion on Islam and then started our discussion on Judaism.
There is no homework this weekend! Have a great weekend! In Class: Today we discussed the Abrahamic Religions. We focused on Islam today.
Homework: Read "The Origins of Judaism" and take notes. This was handed out in class, but if for whatever reason you lost it, I have attached an electronic copy below. Due Dates: Reading due tomorrow (9/13) Link: the_origins_of_judaism.docx 1/2 Block- Mr. Doran taught so there was no Social Studies today.
5th Period- We did not meet today. Note: I will only see 5th period on Tuesdays but never Wednesdays. Tuesday's schedule is all Odd Numbered classes Wednesday's schedule is all Even Numbered classes In class: We discussed the "Nacirema" article, discussed cultural relativism, and ethnocentrism. Then, students worked in groups of 4-5 to complete a "Culture Gram" about a country of their choosing. They researched various countries and made a poster about that country.
Assignments: The assignment was finished in class. There is NO homework tonight. In Class: Today we discussed the 8 Cultural Universals and how they help us study the world.
Homework Tonight: Please read the Nacirema article (click on the link) about the ritual of a tribal people. Highlight/underline things that represent their culture. What do they appear to value? What drives their actions? We had a wonderful first day of school. We did some fun icebreakers to start getting to know each other. There are awesome kids in the 9th grade and I am super excited to be their teacher this year. Handouts: Syllabus was handed out in the 1/2 block. 5th period will be receiving their syllabus from Mr. Doran during 6th Period. Mr. Doran will be putting out the due date for the signed syllabus soon. It won't be due until next week at the earliest, so do not worry! I will update you as soon as I receive that information. |
